Fermented Rice Water Rinse
If you’ve followed me at all, you’ve heard me rave time after time about fermented rice water.
And with good reason!
Fermented rice water is easy to make and use, is very affordable, and has a plethora of benefits to your hair and even skin.
Rise water is packed full of protein which makes up 91% of your hair fiber. A rice water rinse helps to restore lost protein and is able to penetrate your hair shaft on a deep level.
My first recommendation for hair growth is to incorporate a fermented rice water rinse into your routine.
How often to do a rinse will depend on many different factors. You will need to experiment a bit to find out what’s best for your hair.
A good rule of thumb is that if your hair has high porosity, it will typically need more protein. Additionally, if you have low porosity hair, you will not need to do a rice water rinse as often.
To put it into perspective, my hair is normal to high porosity and I typically do a fermented rice water rinse once per week. Check out my rice water rinse recipe here.
As with any product you use on your hair, you should take detailed notes of what works and what doesn’t to be able to determine your hair’s specific needs.
I created a custom curl tracker to help curly girl’s track there progress and determine exactly what works and what doesn’t on their curls.

A Deep Conditioner Or Masque
Curly hair is complex in nature and vulnerable to damage. By incorporating a repairing treatment it helps repair said damage and enables your hair to grow healthier and longer.
There are many different treatments available that do wonders for your hair.
My two personal favorites are shea moisture masque and EVOLVEh UltraRepair Reconstructing Masque.
The shea moisture masque is packed full of beneficial ingredients including Jamaican black castor oil which is amazing for hair growth.

Invest In A High-End Product Line That Promotes Hair growth
When first getting started on your curly journey, I’m all about the DIY’s and drugstore products.
Because no one wants to experiment with expensive products.
But when it comes to long term hair health and consistent results, you should choose a high-end product line and stick to it.
Products are designed to complement each other.
This is why you will often end up with moisture or protein overload when you pull from different product lines.
Once you have a good understanding of your hair, it’s important to invest in a product line that will promote hair growth.
Oil
Taking care of your scalp is a core building block to having healthy, curly, hair that is able to grow.
Using a good quality oil combined with a scalp massage stimulates blood circulation to the scalp, helps bring nutrients to the scalp which nourishes the hair.
Healthy scalp = healthy hair. Go to this post to read more about scalp care.
I’ve tried many different hair oils and the one I always seem to come back to is righteous roots. It’s packed full of healthy oils and is very affordable.

Silk Cap
Protecting your curls is key to hair growth.
Because curly hair is full of beautiful texture, it gets tangled very easily and friction builds up. Which causes both hair loss and damage.
Traditional fabrics are harsh and cause damage while you toss and turn during your sleep.
When you sleep on silk, it allows your curls to gently glide across your pillow and cause less damage while retaining moisture.
That’s right, fabrics like cotton and flannel are very dry so they absorb moisture from your curls while you sleep leaving you with dry brittle curls.

Collagen Supplement
Like anything with our health, it starts from the inside out.
There is a good amount of evidence that suggests that collagen may improve your hair.
College replenishes amino acids in your body which is a key building block to your hair. As we age, we start to lose these important amino acids.
It also acts as an antioxidant and helps fight free radicals that damage hair follicles.
There are studies suggesting that a daily collagen supplement helps prevent thinning associated with aging, and slow the graying process.

I’m obviously not a scientist, but all I can say regarding collagen is the effects it’s had on me personally.
There is a noticeable difference in the growth of my hair and nails specifically when I am consistently consuming collage on a daily basis.
I also notice less joint tension.
I’ve had chronic pain in my neck and my knees typically crack when I workout. Collagen helps loosen my joints for less pain and more mobility.

In Conclusion
While there is no magic pill to hair growth, there are many healthy habits and products you can use to promote healthy hair and hair growth.
Take advantage of the simple rice water DIY recipe for effective protein treatment.
Utilize reparative treatments that will replenish and restore your curls.
Choose a nontoxic product designed for curly hair.
Make scalp care a priority.
Protect your hair while you sleep.
And give your body what it needs to effectively grow healthy hair.
