The number one thing I always recommend for new curly girls is to start implementing a deep conditioning treatment into your routine.

“How often” and “which one” is always the response I get. But as anything with curly hair, that depends on your specific hair type and needs.

Today I am going to share the top three deep conditioners that I believe are the best to get started with.

Important note: When it comes to caring for curly hair, there is a level of experimenting involved because all curls were created very unique.

I always recommend keeping a detailed log of your results with each product and/or technique for the first 30 days (but six months is even better).

You can certainly keep track of your curly journey with any old journal and pen, but if you want something fancy and customed to curly hair, you can check out this fancy-schmancy curl tracker that I designed.

It basically has everything you need to keep track of and I added some pretty graphics and inspirational quotes to make it special for you.

When it comes to any curl hair product it can feel a little overwhelming trying to pick one off the overstocked shelves.

So today I want to give you a quick review of my top 3 favorite deep conditioners to start the curly girl method with.

A quick note about my hair: When it comes to products I always try to describe my hair to help you better judge whether a product will be a good fit for you or not.

My hair is made up of 2c-3a curls, is medium texture, medium density, and normal to low porosity.

I experienced postpartum hair loss during my 4 back to back pregnancies so I like to go for products that will promote hair growth.

Because my hair is normal to low porosity, it loves and needs moisture but also protein.

Strengthen And Restore Treatment Masque by Shea Moisture

The first deep conditioner I always recommend is strengthen and restore treatment masks by Shea Moisture.

You can get it at most drugstores in the US and it is available on amazon.

This deep conditioner is high quality, highly moisturizing but won’t weigh your curls down, and helps repair and restore your hair shaft.

I pretty much always resort back to this deep conditioner.

It is super affordable and shea moisture is a great overall brand focusing on clean products.

Their company has high ethical standards that are important to me.

The product contains Jamaican black castor oil (which is amazing for hair growth), shea butter, peppermint, and apple cider vinegar.

Typically shea moisture can be a little heavy for my hair but in this specific product, I haven’t had any problems.

If your hair is less curly than mine (more on the wavy side) this product may be too heavy for you.

I gladly support and recommend this product because it’s a great formula with good moisture protein balance.

Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner

Mixed chicks DC is a really good combination of moisture without making your curls stringy. During months that my hair isn’t craving moisture, it’s the perfect fit for my curls.

You can pick up the mixed chicks deep conditioner at some drugstores or on amazon

Because this product moisturizes your hair in a lightweight way, it makes your curls feel soft and without product build-up.

If your curls are on the wavy more than the curly side, then mixed chicks deep conditioner may be your jam.

I recommend it for anyone who wants to add light moisture to their curls.

Double Cream Deep Quencher by Curl Smith

The best deep conditioner I have used so far is Curl Smith’s double cream deep quencher.

It’s the perfect balance of protein and moisture and made my curls pop!

I had multiple people stop me in the store admiring my curls after using it for just a week.

This product is not sold in drug stores or on Amazon which is a little unfortunate. It also has a bit of a higher price point.

I consider the cost worth it for my specific hair type because I saw such good results using it.

If your hair is similar or more curly than mine, you will probably LOVE Curl Smith’s curl quencher.

In Conclusion:

Deep conditioning is non-negotiable for many curlies.

It’s important to find a deep conditioning treatment that is giving your curls everything they need to thrive.

Moisture and protein are the two key ingredients that must be balanced to have gorgeous curls.

If you have a similar curls pattern to mine (or more curly) start with Shea Moister. But if your curls are on the wavy side, I say give mixed chicks a go!

And don’t forget……..

All curls are different! It very important that you take the time to learn about your curls and experiment with different products to find the perfect fit.

What works for my hair may not work for yours.

Xoxo
