4 Simple Tips To Thrive During The COVID-19 Pandemic

How To Stay Calm Amid A Storm

It’s really hard when everyone around you is losing their minds, but now more than ever it is so important to remain calm.

Read something positive

It is so easy to get sucked into the negativity on the news and social media. Use this time home to fill your mind with positive material. Grab for a devotional or the bible and read pages that will encourage your spirit.

You will truly find peace that passes all understanding.

Write everything you feel in a journal

Writing positive and negative emotions in a journal can do wonders for your psyche. Use this time to document these historic days and get your fear and frustration out in your journal rather than on your loved ones.

Yoga & Breathing

There is something so peaceful about stepping away from the chaos and taking a few deep breaths and stretches.

Do this every day for 5-15 minutes to allow yourself an escape from the craziness.

Choose wisely what you allow your brain to consume. Stay informed but don’t get involved with unnecessary panic

Don’t get sucked into fear-based media and social media. I recommend staying informed through the World Health Organization’s (WHO) and the CDC.

Serve Others

Volunteer for childcare, offer to grocery shop for an elderly neighbor and be an encouragement to those around you.

Have Fun

When we look back on this epidemic, I want my kids to remember all the fun things we did together as a family. You can find oodles of resources on Pinterest to help make fun memories with your kids.

  • Go for a hike
  • Make soft pretzels
  • Have a pillow fight
  • Make a tent
  • Read books
  • Dance party

These are just a few ideas to have fun and create memorable moments with your kids.

How To Keep Your Sanity During The Covid 19 Shutdown

Create and stick to a schedule

That right, take a moment to create a schedule for your home. It doesn’t have to be stringent and allow for flexibility. But there is no telling how long the shutdown will last and it’s important to set the stage early on so your family knows what to expect.

Be intentional about your time at home

Do not waste this opportunity by binge-watching Netflix. Use this time as an opportunity to be present with your family and get stuff done that has been on your list for months.

Make your and your families health a priority

Get plenty of sleep, drink water, make healthy choices, and move your body! It is all too easy to get sucked into lounging around eating cookies when staying home.

Instead, make the health of your home a top priority

Make Your Home A Healthy Safe Space

Practice social distancing

I know it seems unreal to not be able to socialize in the US, but the best thing you can do for your family and those around you is to be mindful of social distancing.

Keep gatherings to 10 people or less, only go out if it’s a need. Keep a 6 ft distance from those around you and please for heaven’s sake WASH YOUR HANDS FOR 20 SECONDS!!!

Deep clean your home

Keeping surfaces clean will minimize the spread of any virus. Pay close attention to high traffic areas like the kitchen, bathroom, and entryways.

Be the handwashing police

Make darn sure that everyone is properly (meaning for 20 seconds aka singing happy birthday through twice) washing their hands. This should be a no brainer but it’s critical at this point.

Keep lotion by all of your sinks to prevent everyone’s hands from drying.

Wipe down all handheld devices and doorknobs

Don’t forget the handheld devices. They can be a huge source of bacteria.

Make Your Home A Safe Space Checklist (get a copy of the checklist here).

Stay Busy

An idle brain is the devil’s workshop. Use this time to stay busy and get stuff done or you will go crazy!

Declutter and organize

It’s the perfect time for spring cleaning. So start cleaning out closets and organizing your pantry.

Create a meal plan and make healthy meals for your family

Use this time to finally meal prep for your family. There are dozens of resources on Pinterest to get a solid meal prepping plan together.

Do the thing you’ve been wanting to do forever

Write that blog, start your Etsy shop, or create that product you’ve been dying to create. With every obstacle comes opportunity. Use this time to finally follow that dream you’ve been wanting to do for years.

Commit to making the most out of this crisis and make a plan to set yourself up for a better future.

Xoxo
