Do you know those days or maybe even months where you spend all day cleaning but never get anything done?
I spent my first few years of motherhood like that.
I had three kids under three and I was completely overwhelmed. My house was a mess, I had endless “to do’s” and spent most of my days frustrated.
I remember the summer after I had my third baby, I took my car to get an oil change only to discover that my tags and inspection were expired.
To make matters worse, I couldn’t get a rental car because guess what, my license was expired as well.
Which meant that I had to spend 5 hours in the waiting room with a newborn baby.
It was the worst.
At that moment, I realized that life was spiraling out of control and I needed to pony up.
Having three kids back to back leaves no room for fluff.
You pretty much have to bring your A game every single day. And most of the time that isn’t even enough.
That year was one of the hardest years of my life. But I learned the importance of planning, creating routines, and being proactive about pretty much everything.
The first thing I did to get on top of the motherhood overwhelm was to establish a solid cleaning routine.
Which by the way, if you don’t have one, I created one just for you 🙂

Why Establishing House Cleaning Routines Is A Game Changer.
You Will Spend Less Time Cleaning
I know it sounds crazy, but when you implement a daily and weekly cleaning routine, you will spend much less time cleaning and more time having fun with your family!
I know It sounds too simple to be true.
For many years I refused to schedule in when and what I was going to clean.
I felt like I didn’t want to be tied down to a schedule. But friend, let me tell you, that is where freedom is found.
When you consistently stick to a cleaning schedule, it allows you to get on top of the mess. By establishing routines, it gives you a plan of action to take care of the mess. Make sense?
But the secret is that you have to be consistent.
It Relieves Stress
Now that I have a set routine, if I fall behind on housework because of vacation or long weekend, I just start back up with my routine and by the end of the week, I’ll be caught up.
Having set days for what you will clean takes the stress out of thinking and planning it.
So If I have piles of laundry, rather than get all worked up about it, I just start doing one load each day until I’m caught up.
Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.
It Combats Procrastination
You know those times that you have to do something not fun so you find an excuse to not do it?
The problem with procrastinating over housework is that it gets much worse every single day.
When you follow a routine and made it a habit, it allows you to make your decisions beforehand and you won’t be tempted to put it off for another day.

It Makes The Whole House Run Smoothly
When things are in order, it just makes life easier. Routines and schedules allow your family to know what to expect.
And friend, toddlers NEED routines!
When your family knows what to expect each morning and evening, you will be able to enjoy them so much more.
It Makes You Feel Like A Boss Instead Of A Maid
I would much rather be in charge of my time and decided when I want to do housework rather than wait until I HAVE to spend an entire day doing laundry.
It’s empowering to know that you are the boss of your time and you have the right to decide how you want to spend it.
The truth is, housework is work. It’s never going to be easy but a routine makes it manageable.
There are still times that our house gets messy but since we have implemented a solid routine, I don’t dread it and enjoy it…. sometimes; -P
